Storrington residents and store help local vulnerable in need

After the Storrington Community Hub was set up during the Covid-19 lockdown, it became evident that there were local residents who wished to donate money to support other Storrington residents in need.

With help from Storrington & Sullington Community Partnership, who assisted with the donations through their bank account, it was decided to support residents who were struggling and needed support from Horsham Matters food bank.

Horsham District Council Storrington- based Neighbourhood Wardens also approached the local Waitrose store to see if they would be prepared to make a donation of vouchers to add to the money already collected.

Neighbourhood Warden, Chris Poore commented:

We were extremely grateful to hear from Store Manager Russell Ingram that Waitrose would support the scheme and £333 of Waitrose vouchers was donated.

"The Storrington Community Hub also donated £417, so a total of £750.00 Waitrose vouchers will now be distributed locally in Storrington to the vulnerable in need who rely on the food bank.

“We would like to thank Waitrose and the Community Partnership for their help and hope the vouchers bring some cheer in these very difficult times.”

Cllr Tricia Youtan, Horsham District Council Cabinet Member for Community Matters and Wellbeing, added:

“How lovely to hear of Storrington residents and their local Waitrose store donating money to help those in the village less fortunate than themselves.

“I hope the recipients will enjoy spending the vouchers.”
