Armistice Day in Horsham 2020

In addition to Remembrance Sunday, the Horsham Branch of the Royal British Legion, in conjunction with Horsham District Council held a short closed wreath laying ceremony at the War Memorial in the Carfax in Horsham on 11 November for those wishing to remember at the ‘eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month’.

In accordance with government guidelines, the traditional event which would normally take place to commemorate Armistice Day with a live audience was unable to happen as a result of the coronavirus pandemic this year.

The programme was as follows:

  • 10.45am - Arrival at the War Memorial, Carfax, Horsham
  • 10.59am - The Bugler sounds the Last Post
  • 11am - Two minutes silence 11.02am - The Bugler sounds Reveille
  • 11.03am Wreath laying
  • Dedication and blessing.

Horsham District Council Chairman Cllr Karen Burgess led the wreath laying with wreaths also being laid by a member of the Horsham Branch of the Royal British Legion and Michael Boulton C.O. Army Cadets.

The Rev’d Canon Lisa Barnet addressed the audience and said prayers.
