Polling District and Polling Place Review 2023

From 2 October 2023, we will review the polling districts and polling places used within the District. The Electoral Registration and Administration Act 2013 requires a review of all polling districts and polling places to be completed by 31 January 2025.

How is the review conducted?

The aim of the 2023 review is to ensure that:

  • All electors in the local authority area have such reasonable facilities for voting as are practicable; and
  • So far as is reasonable and practicable, polling places are accessible to all electors including those who are disabled.

The Council welcomes representations or comments on the existing provision of polling places, and the allocation of polling districts, from any elector within the Horsham District, or any person or body with expertise in access for persons with any type of disability.  Alternative proposals for venues would be gratefully received. Representations should be made in writing to elections@horsham.gov.uk, or by post to Electoral Services, Horsham District Council, Parkside,  Horsham, RH12 1RL, and must be received by 30 October 2023. We are obliged to publish all responses we receive on the Council’s website and to make printed copies available for public inspection.

Public notice of the review will be attached below, along with a document showing the current polling districts within each parish and the associated polling places and polling stations. Within this document, proposed changes to polling places are included.

What is not covered by this review?

This review will not consider changes to the District boundary, any parliamentary constituency boundaries, or ward or parish boundaries.

Terminology used in the review

  • polling district is the geographical area created by sub-dividing a constituency or ward.
  • polling place is the building or area in which a polling station is located.
  • polling station is the actual room or area where voting takes place

Sometimes it may be necessary for two polling stations to be located in one building or for a polling place to be outside the polling district if no suitable venue can be found.
