Corporate governance

The Annual Governance Statement is a statutory document which explains the processes and procedures in place to enable the Council to carry out its functions effectively.

The Statement is produced following a review of the Council's governance arrangements and includes an action plan to address any significant governance issues identified.

The Annual Governance Statement for 2025/26 was reviewed by the Audit Committee at the meeting on 17 June 2026.

The Annual Governance Statement (AGS) will be reviewed by the authority’s external auditor in accordance with the Code of Audit Practice issued by the appropriate national audit body. The auditor will consider if the AGS has been prepared in accordance with the Governance Framework and is consistent with the auditor’s knowledge of the authority.  Any required amendments or updates will be reported accordingly prior to final approval.
