About the role:
Horsham District Council is looking for an Apprentice Mechanic to work as part of the Vehicle Maintenance Team. You will utilise and develop the skills you learn during your apprenticeship to maintain all Council vehicles to the appropriate standards.
As an Apprentice Mechanic you will assist the fitters with regular maintenance and repairs of all Council Vehicles and perform vehicle safety checks and inspections to ensure vehicles are roadworthy and meet manufacturer standards. You will also maintain accurate service records in-line with Horsham district Councils Operator Licence Requirements.
You will be fully supported to achieve a Motor Vehicle Service & Maintenance Technician (Light Vehicle) Level 3 Apprenticeship through a mix of classroom workshops and remote learning, with 20% of your working week dedicated to off-the-job learning (1 day). As part of your apprenticeship programme, you will learn how to diagnose and repair a range of faults on vehicles from simple through to complex diagnostics; carry out routine light vehicle maintenance and inspections including servicing, repairing and replacing faulty parts and maintaining records. We will provide the necessary resources and on-the-job mentoring to equip you with the skills, experience and knowledge required to fulfil this role. Towards the end of successful completion of your apprenticeship contract, the Council will work with you and provide information, advice and guidance, to endeavour to help you find suitable employment at the end of your contract.
About you:
To succeed as an Apprentice Mechanic, you will be educated to GCSE level grades 4 or C (or equivalent) in English and Maths. You will have good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team. The ability to follow Health and Safety rules and procedures in a workshop environment is essential. As an Apprentice Mechanic, you will also need to be reliable, punctual, and have a positive attitude towards learning new skills alongside an interest in staring a career as a mechanic within the waste industry.
