About the role:
Horsham District Council is looking for a Tenancy Relations Officer to join the Private Sector Housing team in the Environmental Health and Licensing department.
This busy and supportive team covers all housing inspections and enforcement, facilitation of disabled facilities grants and caravan site enforcement. This new role will be at the centre of enforcement of the new Renters Rights Act, supported by and supporting both the Private Sector Housing team and the Housing teams within the Council. The new duties introduced by this act involve supporting tenants’ rights and enforcing landlord duties, so the postholder will focus on enforcement of new and existing private sector housing legislation and tenancy legislation. The role will respond to requests for service from residents and follow through the case to achieve resolution of the reasonable issues raised. This Tenancy Relations Officer post will help prevent homelessness by intervening early in tenancy disputes and supporting lawful tenancy management.
About you:
To succeed as a Tenancy Relations Officer, you will have an understanding of Private Sector Housing and a willingness to learn and to develop Horsham District Council’s response to the Renters Reform Act. You will be interested in promoting positive relationships and good practice between tenants and landlords and ready to provide advice and guidance on tenancy rights, obligations and housing legislation. As a Tenancy Relations Officer you will work closely with both the Housing Team and the Private Sector Housing team. Experience and knowledge of general housing issues, private sector and social housing matters. Enforcement of relevant legislation is desirable, but support and training are available for the right candidate to achieve or broaden these skills. An ability to deal with difficult situations and customers, and the ability to relate to people and encourage the desired outcomes will be an advantage. You will be required to attend visit sites and travel around the district, therefore a full and current UK driving licence and access to a vehicle is essential.
