09 Apr 2020

Horsham District Council is delighted that some 163 local small businesses have already benefitted from business rate grant funds, as part of a package of measures introduced by the Government in response to the coronavirus outbreak.

The grants were made available by the Government last week but the application process and distribution of funds is being managed by local councils.

So far, eligible small businesses in the Horsham District have received funds totalling some £2.5 million.

Who can apply and how much is available?

Businesses who are eligible for Small Business Rate Relief or Rural Rate Relief in England will be entitled to a one-off cash grant of £10,000.

Additionally, for the retail, hospitality and leisure sectors, a scheme is available with a cash grant of up to £25,000 per property.

Businesses in these sectors with a rateable value of under £15,000 will receive a grant of £10,000. Businesses in these sectors with a rateable value of between £15,001 and £51,000, will receive a grant of £25,000.

Horsham District Council Cabinet Member for the Local Economy Cllr Paul Clarke commented:

“As a council we are committed to helping our residents and businesses through this crisis.

“I am delighted that the small business grant scheme is already benefitting so many local small businesses.

We are pleased that the small business grant application process is functioning well and is easy to complete, and urge businesses who haven’t done so to start applying now.

“We are in a position to disperse the funds quickly to give timely and valuable support to eligible traders.”
