General waste bin

Your green-top bin is for non-recyclable household waste only. Please try to recycle as much as you can. More information and tips to recycle more can be found on our Recycling pages.

The most common items in the general waste bin are:

  • Cooked food waste
  • Nappies
  • Dog waste
  • Non-recyclable packaging

Please do not leave excess (side) waste next to your bin as this will not be collected.

We do not currently recycle food waste, but peelings and egg shells can be composted. Get a discounted compost bin.

Apply for a larger general waste bin

Households that fall into the following categories can apply for a larger general waste bin, subject to a fee of £58.50 and a waste assessment:

  • Households with five or more permanent residents
  • Households with three or more children in nappies
  • Households with medical needs

Larger general waste bins cannot be purchased: you need to meet our criteria to qualify for a larger bin.
